By Leonard James

brideless lake

the wind in wetlands has narrowed
to a dubious aisle, the bridesmaids
hen and collect at the edges
waiting, studying the trees
for some wise celebrant to wish away
these grey blotches in the pews of sky
a lone prince cast aside
and bothered by the lack of catering
no Mendelssohn or Pachelbel
lyrics eloping with autumn leaf
